MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1500 Starter solonoid

Just finishing putting my 1500 back together and went to attempt a start today and found the red and white wire isn't connected but I know it should be. I think the connector seems to have snapped off? Where should it be connected.
C Carter

Hiya,

On a 1500 there should be two small lucar terminals, one takes the signal from the ignition switch (white/red) the other is the "cold start" bypass feed to the coil (white/green).

Either the terminal has snapped off or someone has fitted the wrong, ie non cold start, coil.

Gday C
If it's broken off I think it may not be repairable. These things are moulded together. Buy a new one mate

I am not sure if this is what you need C. but the red/white wire is visible on the drivers side of the solenoid in this pic.

What Mr Bowers says is true... and they aren't that expensive... but if you wanted to fix it, it wouldnt be hard to solder on a conventional spade terminal.

C L Carter

Gday I had another look after Mr Carter's post and yes it may be repairable, but why did it break off is the question I'd ask i.e. what else may be damaged internally HTH cheers
