MG Midget and Sprite Technical - '62 Sprite - studs on the wheel wells?

While i've owned over 30 cars (mostly american muscle), I now find myslef with my first British car, a 1962 Austin Healy Sprite squarebody, Chassis #1803, VIN 2244 - so VERY early car. Being my first, it has been a HUGE learning curve, so pardon my ignorance upfront.

I am replacing the interior and I have studs mounted on the wheel wells and I can't figure out what they are for, but look factory done. I was just going to cut them off and carpet over it, but before I did, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Can anyone tell me the purpose of these? They are on both sides (see yellow arrow in pic.) Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that they are seatbelt mounts.

THANK YOU!!!

Yes, shoulder belts were optional, as were the lap belts, which you will also find the anchor points for. And a small miracle that you still have the correct nuts.

Bob,
Quickfit Safety Belt Services do fittings to fit but they are not cheap.
