MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 'A' Series Timing Cover
Does anyone have a spare 'A'Series timing cover which has the timing marks situated above the crank pully? Thanks Peter

| Peter On my brother's engine, I painted a line on the timing cover and some marks on the pulley for TDC, -10°, -20° & -30°.

It is worth checking TDC with a DTI as the marks on the pulleys can sometimes be 'out'.

I've done that on this engine but have small oil leak on seal so I thought I'd try and get a cover with timing marks above crank pully as I have one of these on my spare engine.

The timing "hand" got broken off of my cover when the clutch was replaced about 20 years ago. Since then, I time it to the cover to the right of bottom center (10° BTDC?)

As Alan says, the stock timing pointers may not be reliable. I checked TDC with a dial gauge, fitted a wire pointer to the block, and put timing marks on the pulley. It helps that the pulley is a damper so is wide enough for the marks. Les
