MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Back on the topic of alternators.. would this fit?

This looks just like the lightweight alternator that minispares supply except that it does not have the rear bracket.. I would assume I could make a bracket to make it fit but what would you guys think?

Alexander Sorby Wigstrom

You can fit pretty nearly any alternator, just a matter of convenience.
Nice unit, What's it from?
This one is designed to carry the load without a rear bracket, so if you can align it and you think the engine front bracket arrangement is strong enough, have at it!
I would consider making the lower mount the fixed pivot, and the upper the adjustment, given the terminal configuration. But one pic do not an engineering study make!

Alright, thanks. That's exactly what my brother said.. He's the more skilled mechanic out of the two of us. My dad got it cheap at a car expo for American cars but I convinced him he didn't need it as it "would look weird having such a small alternator next to such a big engine" in his -61 ford galaxie. Awfull ain't I?

If you want I can post more pictures?
Alexander Sorby Wigstrom

Just hold it in the general area and move it around. Usually the path becomes fairly clear. I have a vague idea of doing something like that long ago, lower pivot off the engine plate outer end. It used to be harder because all alternators were fat.

If you want mounting advice, more pics ~in situ~ would help.

You have kept your dad from committing grievous aesthetic error - good job! American tanks are not about small bits.

It looks to have only one mounting hole, be careful.

Put a rear mounting bracket on the engine, with a length of threaded bar from it through to the water pump bracket/inner alternator mounting hole.If you dont the water pump flange will fatigue and fail. You can see it on here.
