MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Back online after a long absence

Not sure where to put this so have dropped it in the most relevant cars general fora.

After a couple of year offline - thanks to my ISP - I have now got the Octarine technical forum bask up and running - http://ultra.octarine-services.co.uk/

Thanks chris,

Im really looking forward to spending some time there discussing the rewarding and positive aspects of pedophilia, how misunderstood hitler was (what a cool guy) the proper way to have sex with a 5 year old dead body, and politics galore

It should be a great time for all...who knows now maybe we can get back to the bizof talking just midgets here on this forum

"Not sure where to put this so have dropped it in the most relevant cars general fora."

Except this is the Technical section. lol.

Does this mean that everyone will now desert this bbs in favour of the "new" one? I Spend enough time on this one, so don't think I fancy tarrying elsewhere just now ;).

No Lawrence - my forum is (and always has been) organised by technical area, so all e.g.clutch issues are grouped together rather than by car. That makes it more of a reference resource than a chat place.

Sadly Prop anything other than the workings of our cars is not hosted. Who knows, you may find more midget related content over there!

"so have dropped it in the most relevant cars general fora."

But you didn't Chris. No matter what your forum is about, THIS is the Midget and Sprite "Technical" section.

Surprisingly, the Midget and Sprite general section is called "Midget and Sprite General". ;)
Lawrence Slater

Different approach to logic Lawrence.
Chris's forum is about technical issues, not general chat. So his logic is to alert people in other technical fora about his technical forum. Perfectly sane, just a different mental pathway to yours!

He probably should have left out the word "general" though! ;-)

Sooo... the site isnt about midgets, specifically but more about (general automotive technology) so you could be talking about a midget clutch issue and just below that thread be talking about a ford truck clutch issue and below that a 1927 royals royce clutch issue....

(hmmm living jigsaw puzzle ?)

I only briefly looked, its the typical modern day forum layout everyone else uses, which im not a fan of. But hello if it works thats great...I can see the value of a general automotive forum non vehicle specific

Wheel bearings....hahaha

Did you notice there is NO topic heading for "wheel bearings"

Now thats a Smart feller

Ahhh....I get the lay out now

Its not car specific, but it is brand specific...MG, triumph, austin healy

So under clutch issues ...it could be for any car in the MG line up....pre-wars, mgb, mgc, mga, midgets, magnetta, ect ect

Well thats an interesting concept

Yup Guy, I saw what Chris's website was all about, and didn't comment on that. It was only the content of his post I was commenting on. As you say, his use of the word general, made his post illogical. Had he used the word "technical" instead, or posted the comment in the Spridget general forum, it would all have made perfect sense. :).

Anyway, although it's quite a nice looking website, with subjects seperated as they are, I think I still prefer the layout of this one, even though it's not pure reference. And with the proof of the pudding in the eating as they say, I think most other people will do to. It's stood the test of time. You only have to look in the archives to see the vast number of threads going back years and years. I know a number of people complain about certain aspects of this site, -- searching the archives for example. But in general -- no pun intended -- I think the two subject layout, General/technical, works very well overall. As long as most people give a reasonable description in the title of their thread, it's pretty easy to see what it's about, and if your interested in reading/contributing to it.

PS, here's an interesting stat from Chris's website.

"The most users ever online was 6 on Sat Sep 21st, 2013." I assume that must be due to the clock being stopped a few years ago. lol.

The site was quite busy in its day - mostly because as well as being a reference site, people knew they could get my advice or opinion quite quickly and we had some very practical discussions - see the Joe Lucas rebuilds.

The reason it has been out so long is because I had to transfer the content, some 88Mb of it, over to the new software and in the absence of any converter that had to be done manually table by table!

It is not there in competition with this board - I have no axe to grind, it doesn't earn me money - if you like it then use it, if not then no problem.
