MG Midget and Sprite Technical - broken rebound strap

Gday all
it seems that speed humps are the enemy of rebound straps, I broke one the other day and didn't even realise it until I noticed an increased rate of clunking as the exhaust hits the handbrake bracket over bumps. Upon examination, see pic, I found the culprit. You can just make out that the reinforcing webbing inside the rubber isn't the full width ergo cheaply made and no surprise it broke after 1500 kms. No point buying another as I know it won't last.
The yellow device is my homemade strap, a double wrap of good quality high strength nylon webbing with rubber bushes at each end. It should last

That's great. Could I have your permission to reproduce that in Mascot magazine?. Even better if you'd be willing to write a short "how to" article.

gday lazarus
I have no problems with you using this. If you like I can produce a word doc with a diagram and some words on how to do this. Please advise on how I send this to you.

MGBs also suffer from that issue with the repro straps that carry the numbers 050 051 052 etc.

There are better quality straps out there but avoid those ones!

I have tested these straps and they fail at very low loads, around 40 lbs for some of them.

The better ones without numbers and a more glossy and better moulded appearance will go up to nearly 1/2 a ton before failing.
