MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Carb Drip

My front carb has a slight fuel drip (very slight). The bottom of the jet is damp at the end of a run and I have a very small 'wash' pattern effect on the steering column below the jet. There is so little fuel escaping that I can't smell it but have marked it up as a get ready to sort out. Anyone have any pointers as to where the issue may be? Or what action to take?

Not worried about removing carbs and resetting.

Thanks in advance, Dave

Most likly culpret is the needle in the float chamber isnt seating properly in the closed postion and the fuel is over spilling from the float vent

Also look to see if the float is cracked and filling with fuel

Also wornout fuel lines that are parishing around the hose clips or loose hose clips

Prop

Prop and the Blackhole Midget

A general fettle of the carb then.

I will see about getting a carb gasket kit and rebuilding.

Is there any evidence of fuel tracking from float chamber to bottom of jet?

I assume it's a 1500 if fuel's dripping on the steering column - what carbs does it have?
Nick and Cherry Scoop

Apologies my vehicle profile link dropped off and I didn't notice. Just put it back.

Yes its a 1500 Nick and there is no evidence today after 70 miles but then its rather hot.

The carbs are the standard twin SU's and its the front one that does it. And now you mention it the float chamber is in front of the carb so its possible. Maybe wait until its cooler in the morning / tonight and crank it a bit without the ignition and see if petrol comes out.

Thanks for the pointer. Any more ideas welcome.

Cheers, Dave

Dave,

If there's no indication from the top of the float bowl then the most likely is where the jet attaches to the bowl at the bottom. There's a small o-ring which can perish, gets crushed etc.

And the final, unlikely, source is the tube from the float bowl to the jet. These are plastic with a wound wire sleeve and it's possible to get a puncture or the start of a split.

A quick Carb refurb should sort it out

Best of...
