MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Choke cable outer clamp

Assuming the choke cable outer clamping is the same on later models, how do people clamp the outer choke cable to the heater clip? I've had problems with the Frogeye outer just pulling rearward when operating the choke such that the choke mechanism doesn't move. This is despite lubrication of my ageing cable (I want to keep the older knob). I've just tried one of those rubber straps that M*ss sells, with the triangular sections. Useless. So I got some 1mm lighting cable and tightened that around it with pliers. Working for now, but is there a better, more obvious clamping method I haven't thought of?

Bill,
Sorry I didn’t really understand what issue you had with the choke yesterday.

The outer (and inner) should go down a fixed hole at the carb end which is only big enough for the inner to pass through at the bottom - hence the outer cable is restrained at both ends.

The rubber clips are only to stop it flapping about.

I can’t take a pic as mine is a single (and it’s still in disgrace !)
I’m sure somebody will have a good pic available?

The best I can find at present

Ah, it could be that my (older) cable has a bit of outer missing. When I pulled the choke out, it was pulling right out through the dash such that the outer was flattening in the engine bay so that the choke didn't operate. So it's not "stopping" or being restrained behind the dash.
Bill Bretherton

Here it is but it’s on the rear carb facing forward.
The outer should be solid into the choke dash fitting where it is screwed to dash.

Nigel, problem is (was) at dash end.

Richard, I think the outer was partially snagging behind the dash such that it wasn't fully home into its restraint when at rest. I've now corrected this and pulled the inner further through its clamp at the rear carb and it is much better.

Bill, I bought a load of old T-shaped aluminium cable ties from an autojumble. The cross has a slot through which you poke the tail after wrapping the items to be bound together. I use ones of various lengths all over. No nylon cable ties for me....
David Cox

Thanks David and yes, they're quite good.
Bill Bretherton

Sorry Bill, I blame Rich for leading me astray. I was going to put I once bought the (expensive) plastic cleat but I found it a faff and just used plastic cable-ties after that.
