MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Clutch plate

I'm almost ready to reinstall my engine on the frog. The car came with a clutch that looks hardly used but I want l check before I fit it and find out its knackered. Could anyone give me the mimimum thickness for the friction plates? It's a 1275 engine and ribcase gearbox.

Cheers

Paul,
I think that the friction material on a new plate is 8mm thick (4+4). But they are difficult to measure accurately with the springiness of the centre steel web between them. It is easier to check visually that the rivets are still well down below the friction plate surface. But the driven plates are pretty cheap and if in any doubt I would replace it. And the thrust bearing too.

it's clearance over the rivet heads that matters; and quite hard to measure. I'd reckon 3mm when new and I wouldn't refit an old plate unless at least 2mm. A friction plate on its own is cheap so really not worth risking the old one.

it's always nice when two post at the same time and more-or-less say much the same thing !

Cheers guys. It looks like its ok then. I'll have a looks the piece of a new one and maybe I'll grow one it. It just I wanted to get the engine back in ASAP and it'll take about three weeks to get any new parts here in the colonies.

Thanks again.
