MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Clutch slave travel

Hello all,

I am curious if someone can come up with correct figures on this one, since I canīt find information anywhere:

My tandem master is a 3/4" with matching 1098 slave.
How much travel of the pushrod should I normally get from end to end?
And how much travel would I have if I would use a 1275 slave?

Looking for figures to check out if my slave pushrod has the correct length. Already searched the web, but didnīt find anything.

I can't answer the question of how much travel you should have, but a 1275 slave will give you less travel.

Travel at the release bearing end was around 11mm on my 1275 with the correctly matched master and slave. That is from my notes when I was putting together a concentric slave system from parts and I wanted to check what travel I needed to match the original factory set up.

Of course it should be a round imperial measure so that would be 7/16", or maybe 1/2" to allow for any wear in the pivot bush

when you refer to "bearing end", do you mean inside the bellhousing, or movement of pushrod?

l meant the travel at the release bearing. I am not sure of the dimensions of the forked arm either end of the pivot but if you had one to measure you could work out the ratio. One imagines there is more inside the bell housing than out, but l bet if measured from the pivot it's not that different.

I know that the actual travel at the pushrod is much less than l expected and the slave cylinder piston only needs to operate over a short part of the 1.5" length of its bore. This allows for the automatic wear compensation as the part of the bore in use moves back up the cylinder as wear occurs, whilst the actual amount of movement remains the same. It's also why the pushrod length isn't as critical as people imagine - it adjust automatically.

Sorry Wolf,
I cannot do that. When I took that 11mm measure it was because I was converting mine to a concentric system with the slave cylinder inside the bell housing. I needed to be sure the new system gave the same length of travel as the original. So now I have no external slave, pushrod or forked lever arm any more on mine!
