MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Crank Pulley question
I've searched the Archives on this but still didn't find a definitive answer, so am asking the question here in the hope someone out there can help me please. I've fitted a Duplex kit with vernier cam timing, with a breather-type timing cover, to my rebuilt 1098cc 10CC motor. Can I use the crank pulley still, or do I need the damped type from a 1275cc motor ? Thanks in advance for any replies.

You can use the original pulley.
Dave O'Neill2
But you want a damped pully.
Onno K
Yes, damped pulley is better
Paul Walbran
The original is fine for normal road use.
Bob Beaumont
Why is the damped pulley better? What function does the damping actually have?
Guy Weller
It reduces torsional vibrations, which have a nasty habit of shortening crankshaft life.
