MG Midget and Sprite Technical - cured my oil leak!!

Having been unable to stop the drip drip drip I have gone to plan B!!

I have fabricated a small drip tray that fits inder the gearbox bellhousing and catches all the drips.

The prototype works great so I am now making the real item so it should be fitted ready for our annual new years day run with the MGCC Lincs centre! hopefully with no leaks on our friends drive

Thought about doing it Bob, I was just too embarrassed to actualy do it, so well done, how often do you think you will have to empty it?
Any pics of the prototype?

If you put a basic pump in it, maybe you can lift the dripped oil back up, and feed it back into the rocker. :)

So cured the leak is a misrepresentation.
It implies the leak is gone when you have just taken away the symptom....

A bit like taking an asperin to forget the pain from the nail in your finger.

Not saying that is is not a good idea but after all trouble I was a bit disappointed

Its really just an engine nappy!

An auto float switch connected to a bilge pump seem useful upgrades and if your Prop - add a gauge !

Hi BoB

Check there's still oil left in sump, i.e. you haven't just run out... ;)

I think you will make a fortune....... put me down for one.....

sanitary napkins from the "ladies aisle" work well, and have a cello layer to prevent "soak through"

MG T-type owners have been doing this for years. Apparently it is nigh on impossible to stop the XPAG engine leaking from the rear seal.
Mike Howlett

Just had a thought... will it fit in the boot? stainless? so it will go in the dishwasher when it needs a clean?

BTW I still have your fuel piping! I will pop it in @ the weekend..

I don't think the amount of oil loss warrants the use of a return pump LOL but it is a great idea for Prop to pursue. :)

It is quite surprising how much of a puddle is made on a painted garage floor by a few drips of oil

the "chain gang" Frazer Nash folks live with being pretty much covered in oil almost all of the time

we've got it easy with our little rear seal drips!

Did that in the 80s on my race car. I actually cured the problem by putting breathers on the sump.

We had a Rover V8 with breather incontinence, so we piped it to a catch tank above the rocker cover and back into the system. Never used a drop of oil in 3 seasons racing! Every took the P of course, but McLaren Honda had a similar system where the oil was pumped back into the tank, Senna lost a race when he forgot to switch the pump on and the engine seized.

Yet again, Tyler blazes a trail others can only follow.
