MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Distributer C27H 7766

Hi All
Does anyone have / or know where I can find the specs for this distributer that in period was recommended for use with a 22G229 camshaft.

have you done an exhaustive google check? - I remember a website, used to have dozens and dozens of dizzy specs listed, 'twas a long time ago tho'

<< Some years ago I purchased a special tuning parts catalogue for the MG midget off of ebay. This was a xeroxed copy of a catalogue British leyland issued long ago. I looked through it and was able to determine that basically the "stage 2" tuning would still be doable and would have a worthwhile increase in performance. I started looking up the part numbers in google. As it turns out the distributor they used back then is still available!

It was listed as a Lucas 41110 (part number C-27H 7766). A quick google search revealed that C-27H7766 is a part number still used by SpridgetMania.com (Formerly MiniMania's Sprite and Midget section), as well as minispares.com, and minimania.com. The part listed there is an Aldon Yellow 100AYV. Aldon Automotive is well known for their recurved and rebuilt distributors. I can't be certain if they made dizzys for British Leyland's tuning department, but the connection is there in at least three parts catalogues and even on a few forums. I decided to save my pennies and get one someday. Now that the engine is rebuilt, I figured it was a good time to get one of these and put it in. >>

Dave is right, 22G229 is a 1st motion shaft. I assume you mean 88G229, the standard 997 Cooper camshaft, which was a popular upgrade for 948s. This is a pretty mild cam, so it probably doesn't make a lot of sense to go much beyond standard 997 Cooper tuning. The standard 997 Cooper distributor is listed as the 40774, which has a total mechanical advance of about 20deg. I can't find full details in my references. All my 997 distributos are vacuum advance, but I don't have listings, and I don't have any of the distributors at hand.

I can't find a cross reference between Lucas numbers and BMC numbers, or specs for Aldon distributors, but the Aldon Yellow probably is suitable.

The 998 Cooper is of a similar tune to the 997, but with the same stroke as the 948 Sprite, so a 998 Cooper distributor would be worth considering.

I've often thought of building up a spare Mk2 Sprite engine to 998 Cooper spec for my Sprite, but so far the current 1275 gives good service.
