MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Door locks - Mk 2 Midget

I see that a well-known parts supplier here in the UK, with the same name as a great F1 driver of old, is offering door locks which are held in by nuts rather than clips and have a plastic thing to operate the lock, and a fancy-looking key, all at a very fancy price.
I was toying with the idea of trying them, so as to be able to secure the car when the hardtop is on it.
Anyone out there tried these locks / got any thoughts about them, especially how efficient the black operating things are please ?
All/any replies greatly appreciated.

Oddly,

Locks are seldom discussed here....

Do you have a link to these new fort knox high security door locks?

Hi Prop,

I'm not very good with the more technical side of computers e.g. attaching a link or whatever !

If you log on to www.moss-europe.co.uk, then search for either BHH973S and/or ' Security Door Lock Set ', it should show you the set I'm on about.

You need to put ' Security ' rather than ' Secure ', as there is a set listed under a similar part number which are basically the OE type but with a nut to hold the lock on instead of the clip. These aren't the ones I referred to in my initial post.

Hope this all makes sense !

Cheers.

oh, my lord, cough, £61

Myles,
the company you refer to is T*ss with some 'er' maangers

if your problem is that your present locks turn without looking then for £10 you can buy a kit to overcome this, I've had a kit for years but never got round to fitting it as I forget or can't be bothered whenever I have the door cars off

item 74 on this page - http://www.mgocspares.co.uk/acatalog/mid_locksdpulls.html#a10578W_2dK121

btw best way to secure possessions is to lock them out of sight in the boot and those locks even when working wouldn't stop a small kid from breaking in

is it really that rough where you go, I've had totally open cars parked in various place for over 20 years and the only thing I've lost is a tax disc but a few months later my wife's locked tin top was busted into with a big screw driver on the lock to have the tax disc (they also broken the radio/cassette as I guess they were young kids and only knew of the face-off type that were popular at the time rather than our cheaper non-face-off radio/cassette that was a factory fit)

Myles.
There doesn't seem to be a picture of them. I would be interested in them as I have a MK3 Sprite.

Bernie,
I'm not sure which these are as they list two sorts, usual T*ss catalogue discrepancy - http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=7390&SortOrder=1
Nigel Atkins

The top one is described as 'security lockset' and the bottom as 'nutfix' - presumably Spitfire locks.

Does anyone know of a good universial electric door lock kit

Id love to convert my doors to a sucide door but that means revamping door latchs and locks

I was thinking an electric would be the easist, that way I can even jimmy rig the current handle with the switches and it will look orginal

Im not sure thats doable....but its in my imagination

The ones I was looking at are as per the link mentioned by Nigel.
Thanks everyone.

The ones in the Moss link look OK, but what do the black things do, or am I being thick?
The project car that I bought came with a set of them, but they were all rusted up.

I have the ones Nigel linked to for doors only.
They are secured by the large nut.
The black plastic things are the operating arms that fix onto the end of the key barrel.

Does protect the paint from rotating cylinder - other types were not available when I got mine and not that expensive then !

If think if you disable the inner release nibs the doors are secure - but obviously car is still not secure unless hardtop fitted. I've not bothered with mine.
