MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Door striker plate - lightened

Anyone want to buy a pair of lightened door striker plates that have been replated? Sadly the finish on my hours of drilling and filing isn't fantastic though the plating is good. The price will be the same as my cost of £42 a pair = postage (or collect) so you have the benefit of my hours of sawing, drilling and filing at no cost. I'll refund you a fiver if you send me your old ones... noting I need to find a machine shop who will do a cheap lightening process as a batch...

I also had some shims replated that I'll take any offer on.

And the all important weight: 203/205/201/206 grammes on my scales

Im betting that will shave a good 3 seconds off a 1/2 mile circuit :-)

Danial any chance you will do a suicide or lambda doors.....thats still something in thd back of my mind

Prop, you gotta to learn to spell my name right! I mean how about if I always addressed you as Prap?

I guess Lambda doors you mean scissors like a Lambo? Mmmm, I spent so many hours on the plates I wouldn't do that unless the plates would work with them.

Many a mickle makes a muckle or grammes make Kilogrammes and lots of Kilogrammes makes a difference. I'd have been better off buying an aluminium bonnet or boot lid but you can't them anymore. Still, with this mini-project completed and paid for (albeit at a loss to my pocket) I can move onto other projects.

Hi Daniel - long time no see!

You seem to have left a lot of excess metal on the catch, considering it is bolted up to the B post I would have thought you could have been a bit more ruthless!

What sort of quantities of these are you looking to commission?

I did this to mine - but sprayed them instead of re plating!

The plates they screw into offer a better weight saving. They are 1/4 steel plate and there are 2 either side. I removed them and replaced with 18 guage ally plate with anchor nuts rivetted to them. Probably a 90% weight saving on the plates.

It all adds up. I went through my car and did similar on lots of components (tried to keep it hidden as I hate the 'collander' look!) and it's amazing how much weight you can lose for free.

Look at using a chassis punch to cut the lightening hole, you might not need a machine shop at all. Chassis punches come in many shapes and sizes.

Though I wouldn't have plated them, that just adds extra weight ;-)
Growler

I'd use a plasma cutter - much faster and more accurate cutting of complex shapes.
