MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Early steel wheel silver colour

Searching the archive and following links it would seem the best bet for early painted silver wheels is Silver Birch Met 06968.

Does anyone have any other information on this please or ideally a ral code.

My MkII Sprite is never going to be a show winner, so I popped down to my local independent automotive paint supplier who recommended U Pol in a can. Think it was this (but can check) stocked by many places e.g. https://groveshop.co.uk/other-upol-aerosols/20052-upol-aero-powercan-wheel-silver-500ml-pcas-al.html?gclid=CjwKCAiA3KefBhByEiwAi2LDHN8BcqEpbD1xKmwgjDV2BjXsFnpBFv1qtSmvzzbRVuwnEWmin19-CBoCU3kQAvD_BwE

See pic of car. Any rust showing through will be my poor prep. Did wire brush, primer and undercoat.

Cheers

I love the looks of your Sprite with that Warwick hardtop Mike!

Is that authentic 60ties birdsh*t on the bonnet? brilliant! LOL!!

I had mine powder coated, a break from my usual hatred of the stuff. I can’t really remember why, I think it was because I’d heard good things about a place nearby that did blasting and coating and I got a good quote. Colour wise he just used what he called ‘steel wheel silver’!

The colour looks pretty good but I suspect it’s a little lighter than original. I also think it’s a bit too glossy as original painted wheels seemed quite dull back in the day - probably just had a quick blow over and no lacquer.

I brush painted with Rustoleum combicolor to allow for easy touching up, nearest shade I could find to original although it's more grey than silver. But with hubcaps on there's only a bit of wheel showing.

Thanks folks. A place in Portsmouth will blast and powder coat for £25/wheel and as I'm a bit time poor these days I'm going for that. What I'm keen to avoid is a very bright silver like modern alloys.

As an an aside, the current powder coating has lasted 25+ years and probably well over 100k miles.

£25 per wheel sounds good, I think that’s what I paid.
