MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Engine fan variable.

Hi All. Found this fan in a box of spares. Any body recognise it and can give me any information about it.
Thanks.

Just that...the blades are on springs so the pitch varies with engine speed....l have one from the 70s so they're ancient! Dave

It’s an Aero fan.

Surprisingly I'd never heard of those before. But they seem to be quite well known.

This from the mini forum.

" -- the blades are 'cranked' i.e. the portion of the blade behind the pivot point (i.e. where it is attached to the hub) is at a greater angle of attack than that forward of the fulcrum. Therefore, as it goes faster the blade will twist against the spring pressure and thereby feather itself somewhat (reducing the overall angle of attack of the blade). Thereby, it decreases the airflow that it pushes per revolution at higher revs. That said, the amount of flex the blades have look like they will give only a modest reduction in airflow/revolution.

If anybody else wants one, there's one on ebay for small money.

"Downty Aero fan with variable pitch blades. Fan blade angle changes with engine speed. Should help low speed cooling and less loses at high speed where fan is not needed.
Should fit 1960s,70 Fords and Austin, Morris Roots car with 4 bolt water pump pulleys as
slotted mounting holes allows fitting to numerous cars with 4 bolt water pump pattern.
Nice old period after market accessory.
Collection welcome."
