MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fan belt

Is a GCB 10863 a dynamo or alternator fan belt?

Thanks

Jeremy Cogman

Jeremy
I *think* a 10863 is a dynamo belt. Just checked my records and I'd tried both an 10863 and 10838 on my 1275 Frogeye with alternator. I ended up keeping the 10838 but note this is a 12V588F engine so I don't know if earlier 1275s have the same belt when changed to alternator.

This is from the Moss website. It looks like 863(mm) is for a dynamo. The 813mm version would be for an alternator due to the smaller pulley. I’m not sure what the 838 fits without looking up the chassis numbers.

Dave,
ISTR there were two alternator pulley sizes but I haven’t had chance to look it up at present.

Dave, the 838 fits my 1275/alternator setup but, as I said, the engine is a 12V588F. This corresponds with the Moss listing. The 813 is for later 12V engines according to Moss. Of course, this assumes a Lucas ACR pulley size.

It could be my memory, but I am fairly sure the 813 is way too short, had one in stock for years and could never find and engine it fitted.

Thanks folks, I'll pass it on to my Dad, my Mum's car still has a dynamo.

And I had no idea the last three digits were the length, thanks for that.
