MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fly off handbrake

Does anybody have any tips on how to create a fly off handbrake for the Sprite?
I have cleaned up a spare handbrake lever/mounting etc so have a good starting point but i'm just not sure how.

One other question, am I alone in having cracked mounting brackets? Both of mine need a spot of welding to make good.

I can't comment on fly-off hand brakes, but my mounting bracket was cracked to the point of being broken when I got the car. Welding it up improved the handle's action and positioning no end, as well as improving confidence in the hand brake's effectiveness.

Clive, on Martin Ingall's site under Technical there are a couple of pdf downloads, one is the drawing and t'other is how to do it.

Thank you David. Martins name is familiar but I'm not sure how to find his site. Google brings up a lot of American Football stuff under that name.

Now found.

Does this help , it is was on the car when I bought . You pull the handbrake up and push the button in to hold it . Just pulling the handbrake up then releases it

Had a cracked bracket, so I bought a new one. The new one had the captive nuts in the wrong place, so I welded up the old one and returned the new one.

That was 20+ years ago. Nothing changes.

Thank you all. I feel some fabrication coming on.
I'll weld up and strengthen the bracket as they are not currently available, not from MOSS anyhow.

A fly-off handbrake doesn't half confuse an MOT tester! It would almost certainly be a fail unless you have explained beforehand how it works.

That’s why I took mine off Mike I struggled to get my head round it ! so when I put the car in the road I decided to shelve it for the time being

I purchased the necessary parts from Martin Ingall many years ago. It involves changing the small lever - which he supplied - and bending the push rod to achieve action in the opposite direction. Although I did this I still haven't used it yet as my project car is still being built up.
