MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Front Top Damper Link

Has anyone made their own top damper links, I've seen a few different ones recently some have been made by the drivers. Having priced Peter May's now at £248.00 + vat a steep rise from about £186.00 not so long ago I've declined from purchasing these.
Any ideas or drawings you could let me have?

I've often thought about fitting those PM links and like you also thought of having a go at making some. One thing that makes me want to do my own is that the PM top link bolt arrangement doesn't seem very good to me. I had to help someone rebuild one at a race meeting once and I thought it could be done better. Not that I'm sure I could do it any better than PM!

£300 does seem a lot.

You night want to read old threads on fitting MGB front dampers that have an extra top arm: to the front of an MG Midget:

something, perhaps, like this?

I built this and fitted it to my car about 9 years ago.

Since I fitted it, I have never had a lower threaded wishbone 'joint' wear out.

It uses front telescopics with devalved damper.

I don't hang about either.

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the drawing would you be able a photo of it on the car and how you've adapted the mini track rod end?
Thanks

this one and the next one are from when I built it. I've since added adjustable telescopics and seriously reinforced the wishbone

hi
I vote for the mamba motorsport mgb shock conversion. If you can pick up a pair of mg shocks for the right money it is a good way to go and not expensive. Added bonus is the ability to set camber...negative if you so wish

Rob, every time you post details of your top link I think 'I must have a go at that'. Question though. What did you do for the top bolt that goes through the lot.
From the look of the hexagonal 'spacer' I would guess it's a bolt welded head-to-head with the original? otherwise I don't know why that spacer would need to be there??

I notice Mamba do a sliding camber adjustment setup for the original lever arm shocks (which I quite fancy) as well as the MGB adapters. For the cost it would make more sense to go for the MGB conversion though I guess ...
but something about a separate top link attracts me.

I've used these for over 10 years, nicely produced and no issues.

it is indeed another bolt welded on, for 2 reasons. 1), it still needs a hex on it to be able to line it up with the clamp bolt on the original damper arm.
2), the articulation of the mini tre is not massive in that plane (left to right in the flickr picture) so needed to be spaced back a bit to stop it binding.
