MG Midget and Sprite Technical - fuse for heater

hi all.
fitted heater to my car today.i am going to run live from fuse box to toggle switch and switch to fan motor. should i put inline fuse and if so where and what amp.
regards bob.
trebor

I would... But id get the fuse that wil automatically reset its self....i had one years ago...i cant remember what its called... But it worked great ...it was more of a breaker then a fuse

Id look at the fan motor spec and go a few amps above...not much

Did your car never have a heater?

Is there no wiring there already?
Dave O'Neill2

hi dave
didnt have one fitted when i got it but had most of the bits supplied with car.havnt got the proper pull push switch so was going to use the panel light switch as will never use.has new wiring loom fitted.
trebor

i think i have wire coming out of loom just before fuse box that does not go anywhere. will have to check in the morning but i think it is green and yellow. ?
trebor

if wiring independently, the fuse should be close to the battery.
Mick - still wiring!!

Trebor,

Green / Yellow, that's the one!

It should be connected to the fan switch on your IP, and you connect the other wire from your fan motor to a convenient ground source (there ought to be a black wire also coming out of your harness, near the green/yellow one, for that purpose).

You did not say what year your car is, but (if I am reading my Bentley manual correctly) for cars built from 1970:

Originally, the green/yellow wire was switched by the fan switch on the IP, and that was fed by the green/pink circuit (auxiliary items), which has an inline fuse near the fuse block. That inline fuse was powered by the white/green wire from your ignition key switch (the "AUX" position of the key).

If your car was built before 1970, the fan switch was supplied directly from the green circuit (the fuse in the fuse block supplied by the white wire from the ignition key switch "ON" position).

In either case, the fuse used was a 35A/17A fuse (or, if buying fuses in the US, a 15A BUSS fuse).

hope this helps,
Norm
