MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 'H' Frame

Hello,

Has anyone experience in pulling the "H" Frame?
O/S/F Wheel back 20mm and ripple in gearbox tunnel.

If won't pull has anyone got a spare "H" Frame?

Thanks
Peter

They are available as replacement panels

Yes, done it to remove about 10 - 15mm kink.
Use a portapower diagonally inside the H frame from the rear passenger side to the front driver's side. Use spreader plates or hardwood blocks as required.
Once happy with the positioning being safe and secure, crank up the pressure and leave overnight. Crank up again, leave for 12 hours. Repeat until kink removed.
Don't be surprised if it retreats back a few mm when you remove it.
For the kink in the tunnel you will need to remove seats and portapower between the rear bulkhead and the crossmember. There's a chart somewhere on the net with all the bodyshell measurements which you can check with string and tapemeasure. They were frighteningly inaccurate when built so don't worry about being a few mm out!

Thanks David

Very helpful as usual.

Btw ... that H frame sits at an upward angle of sevral degrees...it appesrs to be bent but thats the way its supposed to be...NOT LEVEL STRAIGHT

Not quite Prop. The rear part of the H frame is straight and level with the floor pan. The c 3 degree upsweep at the front starts immediately behind the rear pair of front wishbone fulcrum brackets.

Thanks for the correction guy

I knew there was an up sweep but wasnt aware it started that far out

Good catch

Still need to take account of it Prop, as you say. Wouldn't do to straighten the upsweep bend out by mistake! If replacing the whole H frame - they are available as a complete sub unit - then the upsweep is built in.

and, if replacing the H frame with a new one - the 1500 is different from the earlier ones.
