MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Head Gasket

Hi,

Getting my 1275 midget back on the road after a long lay-up. I've removed the head to fix a sticking valve so need a head gasket. I've looked on eBay and Moss website and there are lots of options. Any recommendations for a standard 1275?

It does look as though the gasket was blowing slightly across the narrow gap between to of the cylinders. Is this a common issue?

Thanks

Bob

check the mating surfaces are clean and flat. I run a strip of emery wrapped round a large file to do the head. Its easier to remove the studs from the block to clean the block face. I just use the standard gasket that comes with the Moss or AH Spares kit. Not had any problems and I run a 10.5 cr.

Thanks Bob,

Standard gasket it is. I'll make sure the surfaces are good and clean.

It'll be one of the last jobs on the car. I've had it since I was 18 and am now 52 but it's time to let someone else enjoy it. It hasn't turned a wheel in 5 years and I just can't see myself using to much.

Good luck with the work, Someone will benefit from all those 37 years of sole ownership!

do it once, do it right. BK450 from Minispares is the best version of 'standard' gasket.

I've tried several different head gaskets over the years with varying results, and like David, I found the BK450 the most reliable and that's what I'd recommend.
