MG Midget and Sprite Technical - HT Leads - Plug-in Type for side entry cap?
I've had a look through the archive and this topic has come up several times, but I've not been able to find the answer I want. Is there a side entry distributor cap for the 25D4 on my 1275 engine that will accept plug-in HT leads? If the answer is yes, who supplies such a thing? If the answer is no, what leads would be best to use on a side entry cap with screw fixing for the leads? And where should I get them? Can I use silicon leads with screw fixing in the cap? (For our US contributors, a side entry dissy cap is needed to keep the leads away from the steering column on RHD cars.)

Mike as long as the leads fit in the holes then use what leads you want with screw type cap it also means you can alter the length of the leads to get a better and neater fit to the set but allow slack in case retiming moves the dissy around a bit you might also find straight plug end connectors fit better than the usual right-angle plug end connectors

Actually not Nigel. Using silicone leads with graphite filaments in a screw in cap won't work. The Graphite filaments break and, well, obviously no spark.

"Actually not Nigel. Using silicone leads with graphite filaments in a screw in cap won't work. The Graphite filaments break and, well, obviously no spark." That's strange, I've been using those for years on our MGB with side entry cap and not had any problems. Mike - the screws on the side entry caps actually penetrate through the leads when they are tightened. The lead is just cut square on the end and slide it as far into the cap as it will go, then tighten the screws down all the way. Cheers - Dave

Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure if it was possible to make a connection with a silicon cable using the screw fixing. I have no idea how those cables are made and wondered if piercing them would ruin them.

Well, there have been a number of "strange" and hard to find misfiring cases, turned out to be caused by this. Of course when it does work, it is not recorded, only bad things that happen ar easily rememberd.
