MG Midget and Sprite Technical - indicators not working

I was messing about in the boot the other day and I think I dislodged a wire (red, running from one side of the cars rear lights to the other). I cant see where the hell thos wire has come loose on the drivers side (uk) It some time after this that all of the indicators stopped working. The hazards all still work but when I flick the indicator stalk. . . Nothing.

Have checked the fuses etc, they all seem okay. Sure it must be something to do with the wire but god knows where its from

Electrical stuff all seems a bit like black magic to me!

Any ideas/tips?

How do I put a picture on here? . . . The wiring has obviously been bodged together in the past but has worked fine for last 5 years.

Hi d j.

A few things to get the ball rolling...

If I remember correctly the indicators are on the green circuit in the boot not red.

The fact that hazards work but not the indicators makes me think it is the stalk that is the problem. Do they work if you pull/push the stalk too/from yourself whilst operating the indicators?

Is the connection between the small bit of loom that comes out from steering column to the loom behind the dash good?

Cheers,
Malcolm.

One of the most common reason for no indicators is a faulty hazard switch. The feed to the indicators is via the hazard switch and when the hazards are switched on, the supply to the indicators is interrupted.
Try cycling the hazard switch a few times, vigorously, and see if that makes any difference.

Red is lighting. Are both ear lights and the license plate illumination working! The license plate connector is my bet as to the origin of the wire!

Hazards often use a different flasher unit than the indicator, so it may simply be that the flasher unit has given up the ghost.

The black earth wire that mounts in the inner face of the rear panel support piece could be dislodged (below the boot lock)?

Although wouldn't that mean the hazards would be inop too?

>>How do I put a picture on here?<<

have the photo on your computer then just under the white text box you'll see the underlined Upload link, just click on this

if you get a message that the photo is too large then just do another copy on your computer resized to slightly smaller until it uploads successfully

for the indicators I'm with Dave - try putting the hazard switch on and off a dozen times or so - or at the back of the switch remove and replace, one connector at at time, several times to help clean the connection

if these get the indicators working again you might want to clean all connections properly to make sure
