MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Is this the OEM hood fastener?

Hi guys and girls, I'm about to start fitting the fasteners for my hood. Are these the correct fasteners for the rear centre section? It's the part listed in the Moss catalogue but the holes in the rear of my cockpit are too small, probabky about 1/8" so I'm thinking perhaps they were riveted on?

Mine are screwed in with BA screws - I intend to change this to metric rivnuts (m4) - as the outside ones hold a fair bit of force and one has ripped out of mine

IIRC Dave O'Neill replied to a thread with this subject in, I've got a feeling originally there weren't screws from what Dave put but I could have remembered wrong

the reprint of the Factory Parts Catalogue would probably show/list the original part if someone has one to hand - or have a look (for correct year) on the Spridgetguru site for free (note Christian) download of stuff - see other thread for links

Thanks guys, as I suspected. I was thinking 1/8" rivets but if there's a bit of load on them I might go with 1/8" metal threads and nuts.

I used some small stainless steel machine screws and nylocs. It took many several hours to repair the rust damage along that lip and there was no way I was going to run steel machine screws into fresh clean bodywork. No matter what you use, you should consider a dab of sealant on the threads and under the head of the fastener.
Trevor Jessie

woaw, I didn't say it was rivets - it might be but I don't know and can't remember - either wait for Dave to reply or look for his previous reply
Nigel Atkins

If you use rivets, how do you remove the top when fitting a hard-top? Unless you simply leave it under of course...
Alex G Matla

Nigel I know you didn't say rivets but I thought they might work ok. Changed my mind because they might be too weak. I might search the threads.

Hard top Alex? I have one but it needs recovering inside and out and new seals and windows which would cost a small fortune and another hardtop would be very hard to find so I don't think it'll ever get one.

And it'll only be allowed out in fine warm weather. If it's cold it'll be inside with the heaater on.
Greg H

Yes they did use screws, just not self-tappers, which is what seems to be supplied these days.
