MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Kenlowe fan sensor
Does anybody know if the sensor, mounted in the radiator is a straightforward bi-metallic on/off switch or is it something more sophisticated? Thanks, Malc

AFAIK if it is the variety with a copper line, the sensor is a thermocouple that controls the fan in a defined temperature range. The only ones I have ever seen have a temperature control dial to set the cut-in temperature.

I'm with Dominic on this. He has described the exact setup on my car. Thermocouple and temp control dial to set the switching temp.

The later MGBs just used a switch. You might be able to use one of those, if it switches at the right temperature.

Good selection here... http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/fan-switches I use the "on at 87 off at 82" version. The same place can also supply threaded tee pieces so you can insert the sensor into your water hose. Use with a relay..

Thanks to everyone for their help - especially Andy - that switch looks just the job!

I cut one in on the side of my rad and soldered it in with a blowtorch and plumbers solder went in a treat
