MG Midget and Sprite Technical - made my own disk brake conversion

i needed some correct brake parts to put on my red car, so decided to harvest them from my frog, which is already way beyond any worries of originality.
Went to the local recycling emporium and found some Nissan sunny complete stubaxle/hub/brake assemblies.

I re-used the old drum brake type hubs from the red car and had a caliper adapter machined up.
Hubs were threaded M12 where the studs would normally be and an adaptor plate to clamp the disk on and convert from spridget 4" crs to my 120mm crs i have on my wheels.

All went very well, new pads and disks skimmed up , done 600kms on them this weekend and all is well.
232mm 9 1/8" diameter vented disks 18mm wide.

Caliper piston dia is 54mm and pads are about twice the size.

Nissan type B-14 or N-15, also known as Sunny or Almera...

Andy, did you happen to compare the weight between the new hardware and the original? I bought some parts, possibly the same ones you used, from someone who was going to put big brakes on their frog, but found out the caliper would not fit inside the stock steel wheels that he wanted to keep. So, we checked my aftermarket wheels and they fit fine. He had already done some mods and made an adaptor to make it a bolt on affair, but I haven't done anything yet because all the new hardware weighs about twice what the originals do. I'm a little worried about all that extra weight, not so much the unsprung weight, but just extra force on the A-arm, etc.

Hi Jack,
I didnt weight it, though i did intend to but got excited once all the bits were ready to go...

However, from internet...
Spridget disk is 2.37 kg
Nissan disk is 3.6kg

Spridget caliper is 3.6kg
Nissan caliper is 5.5 kg

so add in extra 0.5kg for the caliper adaptor makes the new vented 9 1/8" brakes setup about 3.6kg heavier.

Remember that the 9" brake conversion with the very heavy MGB calipers have been in use for racing for many years.
Also, most stress on the A-arms will be when doing an emergency stop when all the weight of the car transfers to the front.

this setup only just fit into my 13" wheels, but i needed a 6mm spacer anyway due to the
TRE nut which touches the wheel.
