MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Mark's engine

Due to popluar demand I attach the newly cleaned and tinkered with engine bay. It was pretty black and 'orrible a few wekks ago! I appreciate there is still stuff to do! Went for a brief spin last night - superb. Throttle response excellent, very smooth power take up, felt like 100 mph at 50 - marvellous!

Oft! Feel free to drop in to Aberdeen and say "Hello" sometime Mark ;-)

Mark,
nice HT leads :)

I hope that engine does keep that clean and dusts up with use

the photo confirms something I was thinking, on standard '73 cars the breather hose goes from the cannister on the front cover to a y-piece and then to each carb - yours probably goes to a collect can?

if you don't get excessive oil consumption or leaks then all is well

those chrome oil filler caps look lovely but don't breath as well (on stasndard engines at least) as well as the plastic vented/filtered oil filler caps (£4 from MGOC Spares) as shown below

do you think this engine bay needs cleaning :)

Nigel

yes indeed - spiffing leads. No idea to be honest about breather - will look. Oil filler cap - quite correct, and I too wondered about vented filler cap - will wonder some more after thinking about it...

That 'orrible engine bay/carbs in pic deserves TLC. Doesn't take that long to titivate up - and once clean, it usually stays that way.

Mark,
your chrome cap looks vented but I remember being told years ago that they're not as good as the plastic original style caps

as I put before I usually clean the engine bay soon after getting the car and just before selling it (or sometimes for insurance photos if I can be bothered)

I'd much sooner see a bit dirty engine bay on a car that's used than a pristine example that only does a couple of thousand miles a year (or more likely a couple of hundred per year)
