MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Midget roll cage

Hi

I have a safety devices roll cage in the sebring with a fixed digonal which i have been pleased with.

Just starting to look for one for my next project mk 3 midget with engine swap and have been looking at the mgoc owners club ones , just wondered if anyone had any experience of them ?

Can use safety devices again and not ruled out but just started to think about without the diagonal may give a bit more visibility ?

Thanks
Andy

Is your car for road or motorsports use?

I have a club style one fitted and a Safety Devices one with the diagonal brace waiting to replace it. The Club one will be available once I have swapped them. It is ok. I haven't tested it for strength and rigidity though.

I have a Safety Devices cage, fully certified, with a removable diagonal. Called the FIA diagonal because for full international competitions to FIA rules there was a requirement for the rear hoop to have the additional bracing of the diagonal.

The advantage of the removable diagonal is that it can be removed for road use and fitted for motorsport use. The negative is that I'm guessing there is a slight weight penalty on the bracketing and bolts that enable it to be removed/fitted compared to a fixed diagonal.

I couldn't find an MGOC club bar but guess it is what was once called the Aley Aerodynamic and isn't motorsports legal where a legal roll bar is required.

So you might want to consider a motorsports legal roll bar without a diagonal or one with a removable diagonal.

I haven't found the diagonal obstructs my rear view at all though I fabricated a bracket for the later dipping miror that positions it higher than the factory bracket does.

Daniel

How recently did you get your Safety Devices cage? I have been looking for a removable diagonal FIA one (which for a Safety Devices FIA rear cage is the old Aleybars design which SD bought over), but it just seems fixed rear diagonal is available theses days.

Andy - what's the project? Why not put up some pics on your website - the last project look great!

Mike - a long time ago. Yes, it's an Aley design but I'd expect SD have the pattern for it. I'd also guess that any of the other cage manufacturers can make something identical if SD refuse to.
