MG Midget and Sprite Technical - More brake adjuster help please.

Following on from my previous thread about brake adjusters I've come up against another problem.

How do I remove the brake adjuster wedge? I realise that it comes out towards you but as you unscrew it the square end protrudes less and less from the bridge on the back plate and I can't grip it to make the last few turns needed to remove the wedge!
Help!!

Hmm, Like others my recollection is that there was a screwdriver slot in the cone end for that purpose. But I don't have an MGB with rear drum brakes anymore so I can't check. Looking on various parts supplier's websites seems to show the cone end without a slot.

How much does the cone project when you have wound from the back as far as possible? Could you make a slot very carefully with an angle grinder and a thin cutting disc?

Here's another idea, if you wind the adjuster back in again so the square is fully projecting, could you cut a slot in the end of that with a fine hacksaw? Then a small bladed screwdriver might get it out turning from behind.

I think there are aftermarket copies without a slot. Doesn't seem to matter when inserting into clean, lubricated threads. But you find out later why they are supposed to have that screwdriver slot!

Definitely no slot. Wouldn't that be a good idea!

I have managed to do one side, after soaking with Plus gas overnight I was able to do it with my fingers. I know the other side is going to be more difficult, I did the easy side first!

It just seems wrong that hacksaws and angle grinders should be needed.

Small slot in square end to take a flat screw driver or I seem to remember using small long nose pointed pliers to turn them out.
Doing as much cleaning after working the adjuster in and out a few times with lots of spray release helps a lot.

Richard,I'm wrestling with long nose pliers, that seems to be the only way.
