MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MOT Passed

Passed again with no advisories, he did spend a long time on the front wheel bearings.........

Tony Brough

Have you just replaced the bearings then?
Lawrence Slater

Hi Lawrence

No I changed them about 4years ago with some NOS bearings, but always worry that I will have to go through the saga again!
Tony Brough

well done, always nice to get an MoT out of the way
Nigel Atkins

Mine passed also today, however on way home from test station clutch decided its had enough!,will have to get up on ramps & check it out,not lost any fluid but lost pedal feel & when pressed makes a grating sound??
p kiely

Thats bad luck p kiely.

A grating noise sounds like mechanical rather than hydraulic.

Can you see if the slave cylinder is operating?
Tony Brough

Not looked yet Tony, will have a look tomorrow,Paul

....id lay odds its that worthless pilot bearing ... those things are so shy they break apart just talking about them

Good luck

Prop
Prop and the Blackhole Midget

does highlight what I always put that an MoT is only a pass of minimum standards of tests to one qualified person's opinion at one point of time and doesn't mean the car is running as good as it could or should be

... and unfortunately that something won't go wrong as you drive away with your fresh passed certificate

Paul,
hope you get get it sorted, release bearing, slave cylinder (or rod), master seals, fluid is how old?

if you've fitted and of above parts as new in the last few years check them

good luck
Nigel Atkins

Well done that man! The car looks great Tony. MOTs are luck of the draw. I've bought unsafe rust-buckets with brand new MOTs and have had one of my cars failed because the number-plate was slightly faded (but perfectly legible) oh well.. I hate this new 'ingress of dirt' rule for suspension joints; a minute split in a dust cover and .. I could rant on...
