MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Mystery Part
| Hi Could someone identify this for me. Found stuck to the gearbox drain plug - could it be the anti rattle plunger thanks Stuart

Could be. Is it magnetized? If it's a magnet someone may have stuck it there to accumulate particles from wear. I used to epoxy a magnet to the drain plug for that reason.

I agree, an anti-rattle plunger... for the shift lever? Isn't there a spring that accompanies it? My plunger was missing too, but the spring was still in the hole of the casting. New plunger, no rattle. Tim

Is it hollow? What caused it to stick? It kind of looks like a .22 caliber cartridge casing .

hi yes - hollow brass so not magnetic just stuck to the gunk on the drain plug Thanks
S G Macfarlane
it is probably a brass plug to close off a machining hole in the casing for one of the detente springs or an oil-way
