MG Midget and Sprite Technical - New wiring look for Frog

I think I am going to have to rewire my Mk1. Can anyone recommend a particular supplier? I'm sure someone will suggest making up a loom from scratch and it does make some sense because there are variations in the positions a few components, but that seems to be a more complex job that buying a loom and modifying it slightly.

Presumably the loom doesn't come with the appropriate terminals on the ends?
Graeme W

All looms made for specific vehicles will come ready to fit, with all connectors. AutoSparks seem to be at the top of google searches but there are others.

I had Autosparks make a loom for my racer. I picked a particular model, then asked them to delete some items that weren't required and add in some extras.

They do charge a bit extra for the modifications, but I ended up with a bespoke loom that did what I wanted it to do.

I got the correct loom for my MkII Sprite from AH Spares and was pleased with quality and fit with the bullets/terminals on the ends of the wires:

It is quite likely it was made by Autosparks.

Is your car a standard car? I.e. no extra lights, positive earth with a dynamo? Check you car against a factory manual and wiring diagram. Autosparks can produced modified versions of their standard looms.

The original loom is with cloth covering presumably. Any advantages with cloth over plastic? It's likely that I will have to add a couple of extra cable runs and taping those onto a plastic bound loom would seem to be easier.

Why when I type "loom" do I typo "look" instead?
Graeme W

I had Auto sparks make mine in cloth for originality but asked for modifications as well to be incorporated. I also retained the original bulb holders by cutting off the plastic ones supplied and soldering in the originals.

Its been on the car for 4 years with no problems.

I purchased both front and rear looms for my '68 car from David Manners.

At the time Moss were considerably cheaper for the front loom and David Manners price matched it.

Fitted a doddle and its been on for about 3-4 years now with no issues.

Thanks
Mark

Hi Graeme,

Fitted hundreds of Autospark looms over the years and found them to be really good.

They are really helpful if you want alterations incorporated I find.

Looks like AutoSparks then! Thanks for the information everyone.
