MG Midget and Sprite Technical - New Wishbones

Hi
Just about to buy wishbones for the cosworth project and have seen 2 new types available at Moss , BMH £130 and other £70 both are listed as new parts just wondered if anyone had any experience

Sussex just list the other one for £70

Thanks

See pic. This mishapen item came from Sussex MG. It was returned.
A Kent member bought BMH ones but I got him to send one back as it was faulty. The BMH wishbones seem the better bet but check them over before accepting.

Alan,

From the look of that image they appear to be MIG welding the bushes in place rather than the original brazing so that may be the end of reconditioned wishbones, at the very least it will be more difficult to remove the bushes as it will require machining rather than just heating to melt the braze compound.

try Richard Woolley, he supplied some recons for me that were spot-on

I dont recall if the bushes were brazed or welded. The slot for the kingpin was a Vee shape as the picture demonstrates. The bushes were full of swarfe.
I found a repair kit when clearing a late friend's garage. I dont know it's origins but it will rejuvenate one wishbone.

I have a one of those repair kits as well. Looking at a very, very old wishbone which I think came from an A35 and therefore possibly original, the bushes are brazed in.
Bob Beaumont

Yes, those bushes are welded rather than braised as original. Will make a challenge to repair for sure.
And yes, the bush kits are full of swarf, consistently. Always clean out.
Paul Walbran

Andy, I bought mine from the MGOC and they were fine, I did check the alignment and sizes which were good.

As I had mine blasted and then powdercoated I made up aluminium blanking parts so that the blast medium and powder coating wouldn't get into the threads etc, by doing I had technically made gauges that would check for alignment. You can see them in the attached photograph.

Martyn Wilks

Are the repair kits available anywhere? I have the original wishbones for the car so presumably the bushes are brazed but not checked.

Wishbones don't seem to be listed on the BMH website. Leacy has the AHA7029 wishbone which Moss describe as BMH for £106 inc vat. The picture looks like the bushes might be mig welded but hard to tell and the photo might be generic.
