MG Midget and Sprite Technical - petrol tank fitting 1500
Evening all, Well I'm almost at the stage I can start putting the old gril back together after lots and lots of welding...new rear floor/spring hangers/footwells etc etc etc etc etc.. you get the picture.. Anyway she's been in bits sooo long I cant remember how the tank was fitted.. apart from the obvious bolts through the floor and the pipework.. is there any gasket between the tank and the foor? or any foam? or special bolts/spacers? Cheers, J |

I used old bike inner tube between tank and boot floor... less the valve... A |

Me too Ant. Couldn't face spending £7.45 and then giving another 20% to Mr Osbourne. |

Yep... I used some off cuts of rubber... replaced the crinkle washers for spring washers (all I had) oh and don't forget your sensor wire.. Its also easy to forget the foam sealing wring around the filler next... worth having in! C |

Thanks all.. I've had a look at the image and at the bit/bobs I have around the garage.. I have a whole load of 10mm x 7mm foam "sealing strip" left over from when I rebult my landy.. figure with a bit of clever cutting I can make some perfectly good seals from this and same myself a few pennies. :) James |

Remember also that for your sender to work (worth checking it before you attach the tank!) it needs a ground connection to the tank. If you use too much packing between the tank & the car you'll have to get the connection from the bolts. Fine if you're using shaker proof washers but I switched to stainless bolts (studs all sheared) and nyloc nuts so needed to run an 'earth' wire to the sender to get reliable gauge sender operation. -Craig |
