MG Midget and Sprite Technical - pistons availability?

Does any one know why a lot of pistons are not available lately?

I am looking for a set of 6CC +20 pistons but....

Minispares mega range are out of stock for over 6 months
To bad because these came highly recommended by a certain engine builder

Minisport Hepolite High CR are also N/A for some time

Only omega's are available but 300 quid for a set.....

Any particular reason they are N/A?
Or does any one have a set on a shelf that they want to get rid off ;)

Onno,
The postage might make this worthless, but try Hap at Acme speed shop
hapwaldrop@acmespeedshop.com
He's an active member on a site over here and one of THE places to go for engine parts. I'm certain he ships over the pond.

FWIW, I have Hepolite high CR +.20 from MiniMania in my motor, and have been very happy. I must have over 20,000 mi. with no loss of oil pressure, or noticeable loss of compression.

Onno,

I had the exact same problem about 4 years ago when I needed a set of +30; no one had them and the engine reconditioner told me I'd have to wait several months until a container load arrived from Australia.
I eventually found 5 at Minispares, bought 4 and had them sent on so the engine could be finished. You may want to try Phil at Welsh MG in Wrexham, he may be able to source them or put you in touch with the engine reconditioner.
Brown & Gammons are showing stocks of +20 for about £115 a set but I'm not sure they are the quality you want.

How about these?

Hypatecs, I have a set of 73mm. No problems there.

Onno - do you want cast or forged? We have +040 cast here, and our supplier has 020's.

Dave
Don't know mi-its, do you know what pistons they are as they mention no brand.

Alex
The smaler hypatecs (std overbores) have slots behind the oil control ring instead of the preferable holes
only the 73 and 73.5 have holes

Afaik the mega, hepolite and omega are the only ones that have holes behind the oil control ring

Paul
Cast would do fine
020 6CC dish (need around a 10.5 CR)holes behind the control ring.
But what would postage over half the world do......

I checked minimania.com the sister site to minispares

here in the states and they have a wide assortment of pistons and sizes... But watch out for the shipping cost
Prop and the Blackhole Midget

MiniMania has quite a selection over here.
Not sure what the postage would do to the price

APT has the Hepolite +.20

and many others

Onno
Supplier is UK based so I can get them sent direct.
Saves a world trip!
They are basically the MG Metro spec pistons. They are showing stock but I haven't got them to check the bin yet. Set price is 160GBP incl VAT. As close as I can measure, it is a 6.6cc dish, compression height 38.6mm. This gives 10.3:1 on standard block height.
There is a short slot in the oil groove, but no holes. Local lads drill these themselves.
I can email photos if you like.
(I have here other 6.6cc dish pistons in 020, virtually the same but with lower compression height which gives approx 9:1. But I presume these aren't what you want :-))
Paul Walbran

Ha, they've come back and said bin empty after all, new stock 4 weeks.
Paul Walbran

Hahaha.... Guys, pistons are not candy,.... thats crazy
