MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Poor starting when hot

1275cc Sprite IV starts well from cold runs well without missing a beat, After a 30 mile blast along the lanes to Stratford turned her off and she turns over but won't fire up, finally just about starts but with difficulty just fitted a new coil points condenser rotor arm to try to solve this ongoing issue! She was flying so thought I had fixed her!
Any ideas, could it be fuel?

Do you have the carb heat shild installed

also next time... grab the coil... did you get a 2nd / 3rd degree burn

check the connections for any loose ness

I am not "up" on your carburettor set up but I have a 1500 Midget with the single Zenith carb. I had the same problem and it turned out to be the rubber diaphragm. It stretched so much when it was hot, it would not lift the float high enough to allow fuel in.

I don't know if this will help you but replacing the diaphragm cleared that up and it had stumped even the "experts".

Good luck with your problem. If your carbs are too close to heat, the fuel can evaporate in the fuel lines. Try wrapping them in some tin foil the next time and see what happens.

Further possibilities - weak mix caused by crud in the carbs - Remove air filer and with the engine running, spray inside the carb inlet with carb cleaner. Failing that, clean out the main jet until the hole is perfectly circular.

Worth a try give the low cost involved and the ease of the job.

Blocked fuel filter or poor fuel flow from a weak pump, air leak somewhere - usually a hose, loose or poor connection - earth?, float height a tad out, etc etc ......

30 miles isnt enough Steve

She must be almost seized from lack of use lately

Oggerses suggestions are the best starting point

if you didn't burn on the coil after trying out Prop's sugestion
