MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Quarterlight - Windscreen Seals

Morning folks, hope we are all doing well.

Two part picture quiz for you...

1. Have I been a bit stupid in cutting this seal down? I appear to have a less than watertight gap at the corner of the screen here. What is the seal arrangement supposed to look like?

(yes, the front of the hood also needs a little "tweaking" as the hood - screen seal seems to twist into a funny angle at this end)

2. Is there a way to adjust the tilt of the 1/4 light? It doesn't seal very well at the top.

Or is more tilt achieved by subtly adjusting the door?

Cheers,
Malcolm

Hi Malcolm, there are some seals that fit and some that don't as far as I can see. I ordered some that were way too skinny so ordered some more from Woolies trim I think. (they give dimensions and all sorts of specs for trim like this). Bottom tight, top just fits. Like you my quarter lights are at an angle. One is original and the other second hand that I fitted with the same angled result.

I know you want more original than this but my hood is so messed it needs a complete refit. Therefore hood frame header is pipe lagging, no drips even in a hoolie :-)

Good luck, Dave

Thanks Dave.

I wonder if part one perhaps isn't as clear as I intended. I cut down the quarter-light - windscreen seal as it stuck out above the top of the screen. I wonder now if it was supposed to, in order to seal that gap?

Don't have a picture of what I mean though...

It's all about assembly sequence:
- the door needs to fit the shell with even gaps
- the quarterlight frame needs to be positioned so the window slides up & down evenly and easily, as the frame is the forward runner.
- lastly the screen needs to be raked to fit the quarterlights.
David Smith

The quarterlights can be adjusted laterally to fit the screen frame.

The screen is adjusted fore & aft to fit the quarterlight.

Your header rail seal doesn't look right.

Sorry, clearly not explained things very well. I took a few more pictures.

The rake of the 1/4 light is ok as per attached.

It is the inward tilt at the top, it isn't really pressing up against the seal.

It is fine at the bottom.

Cheers folks.

Yes, it can be adjusted.

The angle bracket securing the bottom of the quarterlight is slotted to allow for the adjustment.

You also need to loosen the bracket holding the bottom of the rear channel, so that the drop-glass can still move smoothly and isn't being twisted.

Also loosen the upper quarterlight mounts.
