MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Random bolts

I sure that I'm going to be short quite a number of fasteners as I bolt body pannels, etc... back together.

I know the best answer would be not to lose them in the first place, unfortuantly I cant go back 5-8 years and slap myself. (for what its worth I am only really concerned with body pannels and seats at this point - all the engine, suspension and brakes are complete, although the only bit that I've actually had a go at assessing/repairing so far is the brakes)

Anyway - does anyone have experiance of the Namrick mixed UNF pack?

Is this a sensible purchase or should I just be buying a couple of "standard" sizes?

I suspect that I'll end up with 90% of the pack left at the end, but even so my gut feel is that its going to be cheaper than buying packs of 10 correct sized bolts everytime I find one thats missing (not to mention that the manual/moss diagrams doen't seem to specify sizes so there may be a degree of guesswork involved in any case).

Thoughts?

I'd go for the correct ones from Moss, they're not too expensive, and generally come in packs to suite the application.

Go for the MGOC fitting kits for the panels etc.
This is the cheapest option I found

the problems not so much the price of the individual packs, its that I can see myself either:

a) ordering them piece meal (in which case I'll end up with a fortune on P&P), or

b) lumping lots of other stuff that I may not need into the order to spread the P&P (but spending more anyway)

we can't help you with the self-discipline but you've had the best advice - go for new ones.

It's always frustrating when you need a bolt or nut. I've found that you can't get the odd UNF locally and have to wait for delivery off the net. It's always useful to have a stock. So I'm going to order a selection. I would think that the galvanised ones would be ok.
Pete Ottewell

There are a number of standard sizes, so it's worth getting/keeping a stock of them.

I bought a bag at the NEC many years ago to use with the reshelling. I'm left with several of the larger nuts and bolts but have used I'd say about 80% of the packet. The most used were the 7/16th and 1/2 inch IIRC.
The only problem was lugging the pack around the NEC as it was heavy. Lesson learnt - buy it on the way out next time or pay for p&p!

Not promoting anyone but I've always found Namerick very good and if you don't want a mixed bag from them you can always order specific numbers of specific of bolts.

for what its worth I've ordered the Namrick mixed bag, thanks for all comments and opinions.

One of the best things I did when I started my first rebuild was to buy a job lot of nuts and bolts and sort them into several of those divided boxes. It makes reassembling things so much quicker when you don't need to start by finding and cleaning up the old nuts and bolts! But then I wasn't going for originality. There is a certain patina which is lost when replacing all the bolts.

Zinc plated fixings look good - but only for a while. They gradually go dull and dusty looking. I have taken to replacing with SS bolts in the engine bay where visible. But SS stuff is pretty expensive.
