MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Remote Clutch Bleed Nipple

I've been reading archive posts on bleeding the clutch slave as i know it is a pain. There is mention of a good idea in fitting a remote bleed nipple in the engine bay. Has anyone done this and have a list of parts that is needed. I note that there is a kit available in the US but cannot find a UK supplier.

Pete - tried an archive search?
Lots of previous threads, some with pics, describing ways of doing it.
Or just buy one:

Hi - there was also a reference to this in the MASCOT mag - October 2014 and another in January 2007 if that's any use.

Wait a few minutes and Lawrence will be along with his ingenious idea - although he is not alone!

Ah of course Peter May, thanks David.

I did a bit of measuring then had my local motor factor make up a suitable length of copper brake pipe with female fittings on each end - make sure the end to go in the slave cylinder is the correct thread (I don't know the details). I also bought a male/male connector and a bleed nipple. I made a simple metal clip that attaches the pipe to the top o/s bell housing bolt. If I remember correctly, my top fittings are metric because they only had a metric connector in stock at the time.

Bleeding is still a bit of a pig, but not as bad as if you're having to use the bleed point on the slave cylinder.

I also acquired a large (60ml) syringe from the local vet. That allows me to reverse bleed to dislodge reluctant air bubbles. I tried using the syringe as a vacuum to suck the fluid through but that just drew air in where the tube was pushed onto the nipple.

Best of bleeding luck!

Colin

PS - Peter May's will be a whole lot more professional and tidier than my installation! My arrangement went in before I discovered P.M.!

Dip into your Spridget spares bin.
Rear brake flexible into three way connector. Blank off one port with 3/8unf bolt and copper washer. Affix with 1/4unf bolt through hole in three way to a bracket off the bellhousing bolts. Put a bleed nipple in the vacant port.
Thats basically what I wrote in Mascot.

Thanks Mike bits on order with the rest of the parts list to re-install engine and gearbox. Bits come to around £15 about half the price of a kit.
