MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Removing Boot Handle
Afternoon ladies and gents, Does anyone have any smart tricks to get the boot handle off? I guess you have to undo the two screws/bolts on the inside of the boot lid and it comes apart. Problem is there are nuts on the back of them and seemingly no space to get a spanner onto them. I'm sure the answer will be obvious but I'm stumped! Thanks all, Malcolm

Yes, you should be able to get a spanner on there.

Easiest is a small ratchet spanner. Before I had that I had a open ended that I cut in half which worked enough to get the nuts off. Actually, I think on mine the nuts are tiny nylocks and when I undo them the threaded stud comes out of the handle casting. Once they have turned a couple of half turns I can undo them with my fingers

Ok, now I feel stupid! Maybe I was just being wet or my spanners are too big! I will have another go at the weekend. Thank you Dave and Guy. Malcolm

Mine were rusted on when I did it the first time (and this on an Aus car with little rust elsewhere). Required bending a cheap spanner to get enough purchase, and lots of penetrating fluid.

I didn't have a small enough spanner/wrench either when I changed my boot lock. I found a some needle nosed pliers actually worked quite well, took a bit of time though!
