MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Road legal!

MOT passed and car taxed, for the first time since 2004. Just in time for winter :) Thanks to all here who provided me with advice and motivation to get the car out of hibernation.

And to add some technical content, I'm still not completely happy with the brake pedal travel, it still seems longer than I recall. Obviously it meets MOT standards and and a short test drive showed it will lock the wheels so brakes are working, so task now is to put a few miles on it and see if some bedding in will help.

I also have an oil drip under it after it's been run, from position on the floor I suspect the crank pulley seal has gone dry.

Hooray! Congratulations :) get some miles on it, seals will likely swell up. Readjust brakes after a bit and off you go :)
Rob Armstrong

Ditto really.

Well done on MoT pass.

Get some miles in then readjust your rear brakes first to see how much that helps before doing other stuff.

Only one oil leak is just showing off though. :)

I would drive it for a couple of hundred miles and then, as well as adjustingf the rear brakes, I would also re-bleed them as well. A bit of real life driving will shake any minute air bubbles still lurking in the system and they will coalsce into proper bubbles that will then be possible to bleed out.

If your engine isn't leaking oil... how are you supposed to know when it runs dry... haba

Classic case of blow by in the rings and potting positive pressure on the rear crankshaft scrol seal ... very common

I'd say drive it a bit there maybe a bit of rust on the cylinder walls that needs to wear off from sitting to long..

Also check the dip stick is sealing properly, and the sump pan gasket is doing it's job as well as the oil cap and the valve cover gasket is sealing properly

Places like those can suck in extra air and ither create a positive crank case air pressure situation or reduce the negative crank case pressure that keeps to oil sucked inside the engine

This is on the 1275 engine and those that came before...if it's a 1500 then toss my thoughts to the wind
