MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Sill replacement

Hi All,
I would like to find a bodyshop to change the inner and outer sills of my Frogeye. Can any body recommend anybody. In a perfect world it wont cost the earth. I live in Hertfordshire but am willing to travel to the right bodyshop.
Thanks.

Have you tried your old pal down the other end of Park St Lane?
David Smith

Hi Dave.
Not yet. I was hoping for a specialist.

How much does a perfect world cost in your mind?! :-)

It's a pretty involved job if done properly. It involves cutting into the A and B posts and can open up a massive can of worms.

I would be budgeting £1000s not £100s if you are not doing so already. :-(

Yes, if the inner sills need replacing then it is highly likely that it will need work to spring hangers, A and B posts, floor edge, jacking point, toe board and the side of the footwell.

If it's just the outer sill and the inner one is sound it may not be that bad.

Hi Guys.
I realise it not a cheap job which I would like recommendations of good craftsman who do it properly and are familiar with the marque.

How far are you willing to travel, if your prepared to come down to are neck of the world, (near Gatwick),
try Peter Flynn. He has done some good work on my Midget in the past, and specializes in MGs. Have a look at his web site. (Peter Flynn classic cars).

Fisher Services at Sydenham? See www.masckent.org where they have a page. Because of his rep (Mark) he does get booked up. He is also MGOC several spanners rated.
He has done some super work on several Masc Kent cars inc my own Frogeye.
Perhaps to consider a 'Lawrence Slater' mod and put tubing through the sill top to bottom to drain the A & B posts.

Do choose where you place your car carefully. I was asked to visit a restoration shop to view a member's car undergoing work. Just in time as the sills were being fitted incorrectly: fortunately just tacked so were not too difficult to adjust.

Re above. I forgot to mention that Fisher Services are near to Sydenham Railway Stn and bus stops.

Hi Simon,
As you reside in Herts you could consider G&B Autospray in Royston. (www.gandbautospray.co.uk)
They produce excellent results and recently completed an original pre-production Lancia Stratos body shell. In the past they have done two Sebring conversions and many Spridgets.
Bill is the body man and will give you an honest appraisal

Hi All.
Thanks for your help. I will try Royston.
