MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Spark plugs
Thought some on here might be interested in this which came from another forum. Apart from the listed info the first few pages are worth a read if you dont know much about plugs. Its good to see some large manufacturers still thinking its worth maintaining data for classics. http://www.ngkpartfinder.co.uk/files/NGK_Classic_Vehicles.pdf Trev

I've just compared Sprite 1.3 ( their spec) with Midget 1.3. Sprite is BP6ES but Midget is BP5ES (!!) so does it matter? As I understand it a 6ES runs cooler. Bill

Different grille, Bill. Thanks for this, Trev. Filed.

This is all useful stuff, but I always take the view that these are guides only. BP6ES is for sure a good start point, but such is the variation in other workings of the engine that such a grade of plug may not be ideal for that particular engine. The acid test is to look at the colour of the plug after a plug chop test/suitable running around a while or to act on the feedback from the engine itself - i.e. does it start OK from hot and cold, does it misfire, does it pull well etc ad infinitum. Of course such symptoms may have a root cause elsewhere, but plugs are cheap and relatively simple to identify if they are at fault.

Oggers if you read the first few pages it tells you exactly that, to the point of it depends whether you drive it hard or just pootle about infrequently. Trev
