MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Spitfire Disc Machining

Does anyone know the measurements required for machining the disc when adapting Spitfire discs for the Midget. The caliper used will be the MGB type.

Im assuming you mean the adaptor between the hub and the brwke disc


Not off hand... BUT there are several and even mentions and a detailed CAD of all 3 sides in the arcives... (sorry) you will have to play with various search wording like huff and adaptor, ect...its been between 4 to 10 years ago it was posted (2012 -2006) in that area

i dont recall much more then that

try the library section on the mg experiance website ... they may have some referances there


But there not to expensive cinsidering time and materials on the midget mania website in the usa or mini spares in the uk

In the usa mania there constantly offering deals so dont be afraid to ask for a special offer

No Prop, Mr/Mrs Motley means the disc. Which is why it says "machining the disc"

I think I have some somewhere. I can try and find them and measure them if you like?

Are we talking about the spridget hub using a the spitfire disc brake and the mgb caliper ?

Yes Prop, that's the kit.

the kit uses the Spridget hub, an adaptor (the hub adaptor) and a Spitfire disc, which has to be machined to fit. MGB calipers too.

We're talking about the same kit, as far as I can recall the discs need an edge taking off them to clear something

I dont think the disc needs turning... at least im not aware of it... i have the kit... but no mention of shaving the spitfire disc... supposed to be direct fit

i have the huff adapter from mini mania...

I read a book once that said the peter may kit has the spitfire disks specially machined and that standard ones don't fit.....

From what I can gather, the two areas to address are the diameter and clearance with the outboard caliper casting. The Spitfire disc is 232mm and needs to be reduced to 229mm, while the caliper clearance can be achieved with slight adjustment to casting and the radius on the disc body. However, if a 4 pot were used, eg Hi-spec, only the disc diameter would require machining.
The price from PM and Frontline for a pair of modified discs is over £80 + vat, while a pair of Spitfire discs can be purchased for less than £30 inclusive.

I have bought standard discs and found they didn't fit correctly and so bought discs direct from Peter May which did.
