MG Midget and Sprite Technical - stereo fitting for Nigel

.... so as not to further hijack the other thread...
nigel.
I fitted my stereo in the same place as you're wanting to and so far I've not experienced any problems with heat despite Mrs J insisting on keeping the flap open on even the warmest of days. Word of warning though, if your passenger is 6' tall (or more) they will hit their knees off the stereo as my son found out on our way to Bo'ness yesterday.
Here's a gratuitous interior shot so you can see how it looks - BTW I painted my parcel shelf black before I fitted it - the aluminium finish didn't 'do it' for me .

graeme jackson

Graeme,
does your stereo have remote controls by any chance?
Jeremy Tickle

yes, it has a little keyfob sized remote that usually hangs fom the wiper switch.
graeme jackson

Graeme,
thank you very much, very thoughtful of you to go to this effort

I asked for future reference only, personally I'd never bother with a stereo as I like to hear the exhaust and induction noise (on top of the tappets, no more gearbox or diff noise now) plus most music annoys me now even the stuff I like!

one thing I did do with my metal shelf was to drill a lot of holes in it in the hope that this would cause it to deform in a crash rather than double amputate my passenger

I had to use some wood filler strips at the sides of the shelf when fitting it and this made it very solid hence my drilling it to make it less so but I think I could still suspend half an engine from it

ETA: Graeme, your heater can't be working as well as mine, my wife has to keep the foot well heater door closed even in winter otherwise her feet get too hot and she wears thermals in summer

I don't know if I've ever mentioned on here about my simple but thorough cooling/heating system cleaning method . . .

:)
Nigel Atkins

Thanks Graeme sounds like a neat solution.
Jeremy Tickle

Graeme,
I forgot to mention I've put anti-slip matting on my shelf and the shelf just fits the MG SatNav (a paper road atlas) and current copy of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide but they are a bit of a tight fit

over the years getting the books in and out of the shelf has caused the anti-slip matting to polish up the top face of the shelf making the anti-slip less so, one day I might get around to roughing the shelf face up to key it to the anti-slip matting more but that would mean spending more time on the car that isn't driving it so it probably won't be soon

Nigel

Can you e-mail me a copy if your flushing method please (or a weblink?)

Cheers
Mike
M Wood

Mike,
with pleasure - web link now you are joking

if you can wait until I get back from Wales I'll add more a bit to the notes

or email me before 9am today for as is notes

it's all very simple the effect is in actually doing it in the thorough way describe (and considered well OTT by almost everyone except the very few that fully try it)

cheers, Nigel

Nigel Atkins

Mike,
if you still want my simple notes then just email me so I have your email address to return the notes to you

I don't keep many email addresses so as to perhaps reduce frauds and the spread of SPAM I delete them once it's confirmed my email has arrived and the document with the notes on opens OK
