MG Midget and Sprite Technical - sticking SU H1 jet

The Jet is sticking after choking. It is a SU H1. It has something to do with the jet locking nut. If I screw it firmly it wil stick. I centered the jet, I replaced the cork washers, the jets, I heated the Brass washers and put it in cold water. What else can I do??

Yeah ive had that issue on my front hs 2 carbs ....

If it sticks only when its been choked what i found to help the best is a more tentioned extra spring to pull the choke full down witha little more force

You dont want alot of extra tention just enough to force it from sticking other wise it will wear out carb parts fairly fast

Something else to look at ... check the linkage bar that conrols the chock if its a hair bent or sitting a bit caddy wonk thst will cause some sticking also once tighted down

Another area i noticed bind a bit is at rhe bottom of the jet where the lever attaches with the little wood screw, there is a ruond piece of plasic tubimg used as a spacer thst the screw runs thur there ... it can get worn and even cracked cuzing it to funtion differsntly and cause a little extra bitting and binding

Of course this is on the hs2, but id think still applicable to the hs1 ...BUT thsts my opjnion

But worse case senerio i found that the extra spring i cut from an old screen door spring and stretched into shape solved the ((( symptons))) to the problem... by making the choke shut with a little more tention

I had this problem when I had H1s on my frog and also with the H4 that I now have. New cork sealing ring is too tight around the jet tube. If you over-tighten the jet seating nut all that you will do is to further compress the ring making it tighter.
It will ease off a bit with time. Perhaps you could try polishing the exterior surface of the jet tube to reduce friction a bit.

Next week I ll try your suggestions. It started when I changed from cork to viton sealing rings. And Yes indeed it starts when I over tighten the jet seating nut. At the other hand If I do not tighten the nut the whole assembly turns when I adjust the jet. I will let you know. Prop what means caddy wonk? Google does not translate this.

When Google can translate Prop then run for the hills as it will mean the computers are capable of taking over mankind. :)

I can't wait to find out what candy wonk is and where the saying came from, if it's not a Prop original of course.
Nigel Atkins

There are a number of local slang terms in the US like caddy wonk (which is probably a Prop variation). It means crooked or misaligned.

I think it is just Prop's spelling, Flip. If he had properly spelled catty wampus, I'm sure you would have gotten it right off.

A little lube on the jet tubes can offer some temporary relief.

Yes the jet was caddy wonk. I am a dyslectic in English, French, German and Dutch. So I was curious if it was my dyslexia or my English.

After 20 years the jet started sticking an leaking. It proofed that the cork gave up. It was stone hard.
The misalignment started when I interchanged the cork gland washers with the special Burlen ones witch should withstand the ethanol fuel. Those rubber washers had the wrong dimensions (to big) and the jet did not return by the sticky rubber. So I changed to Viton gland washers witch gave fuel leaks and misalignment. In fact the were a little bit to small so I had to over tighten the jet screw. Now I am back to new cork and yes it all works fine! No leaks no sticking. A friend of mine had a trick: If the cork is a little bit to hard and you do not have time or forgot to lay them in oil overnight it works fine after you place then in you mouth for 2 minutes...

Haha

Yes caddy wonk is a misalignment...sorry not my creation, but ive always used it so im not sure where it came from... ive always assumed it was a common phrase

You have to love language, its alive and always evolving and devolving
