MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Suitable coil for 123 ignition

Chaps

Anyone have a suitable recommendation for a coil for use with side entry 123 ignition fitted on 73 RWA. Must be at least 1 ohm - apparantly...Flamethrower looks good...

Thoughts welcome
Mark O

Hi Mark,
pretty sure the standard coil is fine or you could fit the Lucas Gold Sports Coil DLB105 if your present one is of unknown vintage

I've got a Lucas Sports coil with a 123 and it works fine

more important is good quality HT lead set, I can recommend performanceleads own HT lead set (they make HT lead sets for others anyway) - http://www.performanceleads.co.uk/

with the new 123 you'll get a new rotor arm and (side entry) dissy cap so they should be OK for 3 years plus but they might mark up, see my posts in the Archives when replacements are required or for future reference

if you've not already bought the 123 I suggest you get it from Peter Burgess then you have full back up - http://www.peter-burgess.com/123.html

and when your car is fully serviced, maintained and repaired and driven regularly for a while you can got to Peter and get one of his excellent rolling road tune up - http://www.peter-burgess.com/page28.html

Nigel - once more I bow to your wisdom. 123 is fitted - just not sure about the performance of the coil fitted with it - so thought I may as well change it. Cap and arm pretty good nick - I will polish up the contacts

Again - many thanks
Mark O

don't know about wisdom but I do have lots of experiences with classics over 20 years of running them as dailies

if you're not sure about the coil, don't know its history then for £15-£18 I'd change it and then you know for sure

polish is the right word, nothing abrasive

I also set my plugs just a little wider and check gap every 6 months

if your HT leads are old I'd change them too - I got a free set of 7mm silicone with the 123 but after only 34 months I swapped them for the performanceleads HT set and instant improvements - the old set look like new cleaned up and probably function well but are just not as good as the performanceleads set

BTW I'm not on any commisions from anyone, if I find good products and services I say so and if I find poor products or services I say so, of course I can't say on a public BBS who to avoid - but I can if I'm emailed and asked
Nigel Atkins

Mine has a standard Lucas (type) coil.
frogeye Gary

there you go a standard coil in good condition is fine

Gary,
I put something for you a few days back but can't remember what now
