MG Midget and Sprite Technical - sump ding
| Hi,I attach a photo of my sump.Do I try to beat the ding out or leave well alone.Has anyone got any experience of a sump repair like this please. I do not want to create a problem if people think it is risky to try to beat the dent out Thanks Mark

Does it hit the crank? (no) leave it as is
Onno K
I would leave it as is. If you try to beat it out, the metal will undoubtedly crack along one of the "seams."

Hull potholes cause that?
J White
What ding are we talking about?
Trevor Jessie
Its not all ding. There is supposed to be a recess/ ledge there. Although it looks like someone may have tried to use a bottle jack on it and it has distorted a bit. Or do you mean the little bit by the sump plug? - Leave it alone. Guy

is it where the dipstick goes?
Dan Cusworth
thanks as ever. I will leave well alone. I like to think the PO did it and not Hull potholes, but cannot be sure !! Mark

Some of those potholes are epic. I either end up swerving all over the road or else the Mini crashes through them....and don't get me started on the speed bumps. lol

Leave it. I've got one in mine and it's OK. Pot holes. In some parts of Stockport where I live it looks like an F1 warm up lap with people trying to avoid them. Bernie.

| Here's another 'dented' sump. As Dan says, it is where the dipstick rests.

Every 1275 pan I've seen has this dimple. Not to worry. If it's not leaking or hitting the crank, then leave it alone.
